Resettling in Turkey means that you’ll probably stay here much longer than 90 days, which is the duration of a tourist visa. That means that you have to apply for a long-stay visa before you travel.
If you already came to Turkey, you can get a residence permit from the local authorities. The important thing is to do it before you have been in Turkey for 90 days or more.
When it comes to long-stay residence permits, you can choose between temporary residency and permanent residency.
Temporary residence permit enables you to stay in Turkey for more than 90 days, but you must apply within 30 days of your arrival.
To be eligible for a permanent residence permit, first you’ll need to be legally and continuously living in Turkey for more than eight years.
That can be passed by starting a business or buying a property in Turkey. To obtain a permanent permit on one of these grounds, you’ll need to prove that you’re a legal owner of the property or the business and that you can support yourself financially while living here.
It sounds complicated, but nothing to stress about. It can be tricky, but that’s why we’re here.
